Direct To Consumer Healthcare Is Coming Says 23andMe’s Wojcicki

“We’ve opened up an industry where other people can start to show there is a direct-to-consumer path.”

In an interview with Fortune, Anne Wojcicki, founder of 23andMe says the personal genomics company has opened up a new industry.

“If you’re really looking for the long-term change sometimes you just have to do the hard work. If you’re in this game for ten years then you figure out how you work with the FDA and by working with the regulatory body you’re going to actually drive the change.

“I’m proud of what we’ve done for ourselves but I also feel that we’ve opened up an industry where other people can start to show there is a direct-to-consumer path and we’re hearing more and more that direct-to-consumer healthcare is coming.

“People talk about the consumer like, ‘do you have to go to your physician for everything? Do you have to go for a blood test? Do you have to go for all your genetic test?’ and more and more we’re seeing how [people] can get this information in a way they can understand it.”
