The advancing movement in wearable technology and self-tracking means analyzing your children’s biometric data from birth to adulthood is inevitable. New devices and smartclothes that cater to recording a child’s vital signs are frequently brought to market with the aim to empower parents to understand their child like never before. In the future, from baby to adulthood a child will be tracked from a biological level such as their genetics, microbiome and biomarkers to a physiological one such as their heart rate, HRV and blood pressure.

Biometric clothing company, Hexoskin, is capitalizing on this movement with the launch of Hexoskin Junior, the world’s first biometric smart vest designed for children and teenagers. Launched at CES 2015, the Junior is based on Hexoskin’s original adult vest that provides real-time biometric feedback in the form of heart rate, step count, sleep duration, calories burned, heart rate recovery, heart rate variability, breathing rate, breathing volume, activity level and acceleration.

Give your child an early competitive advantage

Parents who want their kids to pursue a career in sports or want to ensure that they are as healthy as possible will find the Hexoskin Junior vest a useful piece of kit. The data the vest provides will allow parents to benchmark to understand how their child is improving and in some cases identify any health-related issues at an early stage.

Co-Founder and CEO of Hexoskin, Pierre-Alexandre Fournier said about the launch, “Youth athletics are popular all over the world. Whether it’s hockey, baseball, football, soccer, volleyball or track & field, kids are part of intense training programs that are training them to become champions and Olympians. With the addition of Hexoskin Junior, we’ve set out to provide coaches, parents and kids the invaluable tools our adult shirts provide.”

An optimized child does come at a price however. The Hexoskin Junior is available by itself for $149.99 or in a starter kit for $379.99 that contains a Bluetooth recording device and USB cable, and for kids that grow year-on-year parents will have to regularly change the vest as their child grows out of it.
