Myprotein’s Total Nutri-Greens is a ready-to-mix vegan blend of 22 vegetable, plant and fruit extracts.

It’s packed full of healthy goodness and contains a natural source of essential vitamins.

When most people struggle to get their five fruit and veg a day (and some claim it’s still not enough) Total Nutri-Greens helps you get those much-needed nutrients quick and easy.

Myprotein calls it a “superfood blend” and reading the ingredients it’s easy to understand why.

This is a review of Myprotein’s Total Nutri-Greens. It covers what it is, what it tastes like, the health benefits and how to consume it.

What is Myprotein Total Nutri-Greens?

Total Nutri-Greens contains 22 “superfood” extracts which come in a ready-to-mix powder. Add a small scoop of it to water or juice, shake it up, drink it and you’re done.

In one drink you’ll consume extracts from the likes of broccoli, spinach, beetroot, elderberries and more. It’s an easy way to get essential nutrients into your body and is especially useful for those with busy schedules.

How many people do you know who manage to eat an adequate amount of fruit and vegetables each day? I don’t know any, including myself.

What flavours does it come in?

It comes in two varieties:

  • Unflavoured
  • Tropical flavour

Word of caution.

I haven’t tried the unflavoured version but feedback from others suggest you should almost certainly buy the tropical flavour.

A lot of reports say the unflavoured variety tastes like a rancid swamp of infested bog water and given the ingredients it’s not surprising.

It’s likely that plant and vegetable extracts have a vulgar taste to them. This is the paradox of healthy eating. Sometimes food that’s good for you tastes bad.

It’s all good though. Just remember to stick with the tropical flavour as it tastes great. Unless you don’t mind the taste of pond go for the unflavoured version.

One caveat is, however, is you will pay a little more for the tropical flavour on the Myprotein website.

Size-wise, it comes in three different options.

  • 100g (tropical flavour only)
  • 330g
  • 660g

I’ve been using it for a couple of years so I usually buy the largest size when I reorder. If you’ve never tried it before perhaps go for the 100g or 330g size first.

A 100g bag will last you just over a week whereas you’ll get around a month out of a 330g bag. If you like fruit flavoured drinks then you’ll like this. Just remember to get the tropical flavour.

What’s in it and what are the health benefits

There’s a lot of healthy ingredients in Total Nutri-Greens. According to Myprotein, they include:

Soya Lecithin Powder, Spirulina Powder, Apple Fibre Powder (Sulphites), Barley Grass Powder, Wheatgrass Powder, Oat Flour, Alfalfa Grass Powder, Chlorella Powder, Soya Flour, Acerola Berry, Beetroot Powder, Pomegranate Powder, Siberian Ginseng, Carrot Powder, Tomato Powder, Astragalus Root Powder, Broccoli Powder, Spinach Powder, Gingko Biloba Leaf Extract (50:1), Green Tea, Grapeseed Extract, Elderberry Powder, Bilberry Fruit Powder, Flavouring, Acid (Citric Acid), Colour (Carotenes).

It contains Vitamin C, B12 and K which all come from their natural source. According to the NHS the health benefits of these three vitamins are:

  • Vitamin C. Protects the cells, keeps them healthy and maintains healthy skin
  • Vitamin B12. Makes red blood cells and keeps the nervous system healthy
  • Vitamin K. Required for blood clotting and helps wounds heal properly

How to consume Total Nutri-Greens

Since it comes in powder form, Total Nutri-Greens can be consumed in different ways. For the no-nonsense people (like me) you can mix it with water, give it a shake and drink it.

You can also turbocharge a smoothie by adding it to the mix. I do this occasionally when I make a power smoothie (see below). Not only does it provide even more nutrition to your smoothie, it can also sweeten the flavour of a vegetable-heavy mix.

Some add it to their morning porridge or include it in their protein shakes. It depends on what you prefer but either way, it can be consumed how you like it.

How I use Total Nutri-Greens

I’ve been using Total Nutri-Greens for a couple of years and while I don’t drink it daily, I have it regularly. Around three or four times a week I’ll mix one up in a shaker.

There are a few scenarios where it is particularly useful for me.

Breaking a fast

I’m a big proponent of intermittent fasting. I do it regularly because the health benefits of intermittent fasting are (for me at least) astounding.

The problem with intermittent fasting is it’s often difficult to get adequate nutrients into your body during the eating window. If you fast for 20 hours each day as I often do, it leaves four hours to get enough macro and micronutrients into my body, which isn’t a lot of time.

Total Nutri-Greens comes in handy in this instance. To break the fast I’ll drink one before moving onto solid foods. That tropical flavour tastes oh-so-good after 20 hours of just black coffee and water!

Drinking one during the eating window helps me get the nutrients my body needs as I may only have one meal and a few snacks during this time.

Travelling or on holiday 

If you’re planning on going travelling or even if you’re just going on holiday take some with you. While it won’t help alleviate a hangover, it will ensure you’re getting good nutrients in you among all the dodgy holiday food.

When I was training muay thai in Thailand I took a month’s worth with me. It came in very handy after a brutal two-hour training session in the 30-degree heat.

After each session, I’d return to my apartment and mix one up with some electrolyte powder to quickly replenish everything I’d sweated out.

You don’t have to take a full bag with you. Put some in a sealed plastic bag and you’re good. If you’re taking the powder as a carrying on, expect a few questions at airport security.

Making power smoothies even more powerful 

I go through phases of making my power smoothies (heavily plagiarised from Dr Rhonda Patrick). Sometimes I go for months without making one and other times I’ll have one every day.

During the times whenI’m on a smoothie binge, I’ll often add Total Nutri-Greens to the mix. My smoothies generally have enough fruit in them so I don’t add too much as it can become too sweet.

If your smoothies are more veg based then try adding the tropical flavour to sweeten it up.

Final thoughts on Myprotein’s Total Nutri-Greens

Call me biased since I’m a long time user but, for me, Total Nutri-Greens is a good solution to get those essential vitamins and nourishment into your body.

Is it better than eating lots of fruit and veg every day? No, of course not, but the problem is very few people manage to eat their daily requirements.

It takes very little time to make one, there’s little mess afterwards and the tropical flavour tastes great.

Perhaps it’s the placebo effect but I feel good after drinking one and coming from a reputable company like Myprotein I’m safe in the knowledge that the ingredients should be good quality.
